Responsibility

Every day, no....every minute we are awake, every day, we are constantly being challenged to do what is right, to take responsibility for what we think, say and do.  To behave all of the time as if we are being watched by someone that we care what they think is a heavy responsibility.  To think if we say something cruel or careless, to stare or give a nasty look to anyone that just got on our last nerve.....maybe they deserved it you think....maybe it doesn't even matter to them....maybe they didn't see or hear what was done....they are all excuses to make ourselves feel better and not accept the accountability/responsibility for our actions.  Accountability is the shadow of responsibility.  One is like the other.  We are pros at excuses to make ourselves feel better....to give us time to shake off that little imp that sits on our shoulder and whispers in our sub-conscious that we shouldn't have done whatever it was.  There are people that really don't know right from wrong, but that is not the case for most of us.  If we make a mistake, say something or do something we know is wrong, we need to put our desire to have an instant out by saying it was their fault for making us feel like we had to do or say whatever.  We need to apologize, tell someone else even what we did and say it was wrong....take a minute to openly acknowledge our being human saying, "I'm sorry", or "I shouldn't have said or done that", find a way to make a wrong right. It isn't always easy or even possible.  Taking a five or ten second pause before we let our actions or words lash out or carelessly attack someone is the best defense to not repeatedly be that kind of person.  We all make mistakes, we don't all take responsibility for them and/or deliberately try to make whatever efforts we can to be a stand-up person.

My Challenge this week is to try to not let any situation get the best of you and make you weak to say or act in that way.  Take the responsibility for what you say and do.

The Eyes of The Invisible

"In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility." Eleanor Roosevelt
